Way-protection covers like Armour Joint and Sinus Armour Joint systems take continuous abuse from chips, coolant and debris so your machine slideways do not have to. Over time, that protection wears down. Here is what to look out for.
1. Visible gaps or tears in the cover
Even small gaps let abrasive chips reach the slideway, accelerating wear on the ways themselves.
2. Coolant or chips found on the slideway during cleaning
If debris is getting past the cover, protection has already been compromised.
3. Stiff or uneven axis movement
Damaged joints or a bent profile can create drag or binding during travel.
4. Visible corrosion on the cover itself
Surface corrosion is often an early sign the finish has broken down and the base metal is exposed.
5. The cover is older than the machine's last major service
If nobody can recall the last time the way-protection was replaced, it is worth an inspection.
If any of these apply, it is worth having your covers measured for replacement before slideway accuracy is affected.
